Profile

BBAT has been accepted as physiotherapy approach in Norway since late 1980ties. BBAT is a movement awareness approach, focusing on simple daily movements, lying, sitting, standing, relational, walking, use of voice and massage. BBAT is person-centred, process-oriented and health-directed, including a multi-perspective approach to human movement. Accordingly, BBAT provides bio-psycho-social and existential movement aspects. Education, post-graduate courses and research have been developed since mid 1980ties, presented in peer-reviewed journals. Shorter and longer courses are provided through the International Association of Teachers in BBAT (IATBBAT). BBAT aims to strengthen professional PT`s knowledge, skills and attitude in movement awareness principles, to gain competence in the role as PT within mental health and psychiatry.

Target Group

BBAT is used in multiple clinical settings, in psychiatry, in primary health care, pain rehabilitation, health promotion and preventive health care. BBAT can be used in individual and/or group physiotherapy; its principles can be applied to patients in multiple ages. BBAT is designed for patients suffering from muscle-skeletal problems, balance problems, psychiatric illness, psycho-somatic problems, long lasting pain, life-style problems, eating disorders, violence, and: to PTs who wants to develop professional and personal, deepening knowledge on human movement, the key in PT.
