NIBK - News: Two New Teachers in BBAM in half a year
During the last half a year, two new teachers in BBAM are “born”:
First, Daniel Catalan Matamoros, Spain, was examined, in mid August 2019, during a 6 hours long oral exchange of theory, movement pedagogy and teaching experiences and structures of strategies to transfer principles from BBAT to physiotherapists. His portfolio was presented, argued for and themes were discussed. This exam was completed in Thorshavn, Faro Island, related to the yearly, summer seminar in the BBAT teacher group.
Second, Jordy den Engelsman, the Netherlands, was examined, in beginning of February 2020, another 6 hours oral exchange focusing on the same themes of BBAM, its theoretical base and pedagogical principles to promote movement quality through a movement awareness learning. Also he presented his portfolio and both practical and theoretical subjects were elaborated within this oral exam. This exam was completed in Almeria, Spain, related to the second edition of the clinical MSc of Physiotherapy in BBAM.
NIBK – Old news: Two Teachers in BBAM were examined in May 2017
Two BBAM teachers were examined in May 2017: Sirpa Ahola, Lecturer at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Helsinki, Finland and Anne Marie Bøhme Hetlevik, special physiotherapist, Telemark Hospital, Norway. Liv Helvik Skjærven skriver:
Professor in Physiotherapy Emerita at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Bergen, Norway and academic coordinator at the MSc of Physiotherapy in BBAM, University of Almeria, Almeria, Spain, presented and defended the Doctoral degree, Thursday the 31st of October 2019, at University of Murcia, Spain.
Title of the Thesis: "The Phenomena Movement Quality and Movement Awareness - Theory Construct and Communication in Mental health Physiotherapy".
The PhD was completed in the Doctorate Program in Health, Disability, Dependency and Wellbeing at International School of Doctoral Studies, at University of Murcia, Murcia, Spain.
Supervisors were: Dr Antonia Gomez Conesa, Professor at Department of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Medicine, University of Murcia and Dr Daniel Catalan - Matamoros, Faculty of Humanities, Communication and Documentation, University Carlos III of Madrid, Madrid, Spain.
Opponents were: Dr Maria Dolores Hidalgo Montesinos, University of Murcia, Spain (Prof. in Psychology, Leader of the Committee, University of Murcia), Dr Miguel Mufioz-Crusado y Barba, Professor in Physiotherapy, University of Malaga, Spain; Dr Lene Nybø, Professor in Physiotherapy, University of Aarhus, Denmark.
Summary: The thesis is directed towards clarifying the two phenomena, movement quality and movement awareness and how they interrelate, through studying core phenomena in the context of clinical physiotherapy, studying a movement vocabulary of movement quality for professional communication, and synthesising previous research on movement quality and movement awareness, mapping a construct of a movement awareness domain to communicate within the field of mental health physiotherapy. The thesis draws on inspiration from Basic Body Awareness Therapy (BBAT). Two basic assumptions are implemented in the thesis, a phenomenological approach to investigate lived movement experiences and a salutogenic approach, focusing on assets for health. On the background of the three included studies, the thesis provides a framework of future visions, mission and enabling pillars of a movement awareness domain in mental health physiotherapy.
The dissertation was presented in The Journal of the Spanish Association of Physiotherapy, Spain.
